Conquer Madeira’s highest peak, Pico Ruivo (1862m), via a more accessible route. This 6km hike from Achadas do Teixeira is less demanding than the PR1 trail from Pico do Areeiro, making it perfect for hikers seeking a rewarding yet less strenuous climb.
Starting at 1592 meters above sea level, the trail ascends over 300 meters, offering stunning views of Madeira’s central mountain range, including Paul da Serra, Encumeada, and Pico do Areeiro. As you hike, you’ll traverse ancient forests of the Natura 2000 Network, where centennial trees and endemic species like the resilient Urze create a serene natural environment.
