Kilimanjaro
About
The Rongai route retains a sense of unspoiled wilderness. The Rongai route is the only route that approaches Kilimanjaro from the north. Rongai route is truly one of the more remote and wild trails on the entire mountain. Despite that however, this route offers trekkers plenty of advantages, making it a very appealing option for those looking for a unique experience on Africa’s tallest peak. Due to its remote nature, the Rongai Route is among the least visited of all of the trails on Mount Kilimanjaro. Those who choose this path will experience peace and quiet for much of the trek, encountering few other climbers prior to reaching the Kibo Camp, at which point the trail merges with the Maran...

Mount Kilimanjaro
After an early breakfast in Moshi, you will drive to Rongai, Kilimanjaro National park gate for registration formalities, Rongai (Nalemoru) Gate (1,800m/5,900ft) near the Kenya border. We begin our climb on this unspoilt wilderness route. The walk then starts to climb consistently, but gently through attractive forest that shelters a variety of wildlife. The forest begins to thin out and the first camp is at the edge of the moorland zone (2600 m.) with extensive views over the Kenyan plains.
The first day is only a half-day walk.
Nalemoru Gate to Simba Camp is 3-4 hours walking.
The maximum weight you will be carrying is 12-15 lbs. (includes water bottles). Remember to work out while carrying your pack! A “daypack” typically has enough space for what you will need to carry. However, a “backpack” will have better padding in the shoulders and waist making it more comfortable (and in some cases durable) to carry during our climb.
