Covering over 3,400 square kilometres, it includes a rich diversity of ecosystems such as coral reefs, seagrass meadows, mangroves, wetlands, and sandy islands. The park is home to a wide range of marine life, including dugongs, dolphins, turtles, whales, and over 50,000 migratory shorebirds.
