Shobak Castle
One of the major crossaders castles in Jordan ,Al-Shobak Castle, which is called in European languages, Montreal Castle, meaning the royal mountain, is a Crusader castle on the eastern side of Wadi Araba. Perched on top of a rocky conical mountain. Overlooking the dense trees and valleys in which water ran in that period. The citadel is located 120 km south of Karak, and 35 km north of Petra the capital of the Nabateans. The castle played an important role during the Crusades, as it helped cut off the transportation routes for commercial convoys and military campaigns between Egypt and Damascus. The importance of the castle gradually diminished after it fell into the hands of the Ayyubi ds.
