Das 1911 eingeweihte Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele II (Altare della Patria) ist ein imposantes Gebäude an der Piazza Venezia, das Viktor Emanuel II. würdigt. Das Monumento Nazionale a Vittorio Emanuele wurde 1911 als Hommage an Viktor Emanuel II., den ersten König Italiens nach der Vereinigung des Landes, eingeweiht. Im Gebäude befinden sich das Institut für die Geschichte des italienischen Risorgimento und das Zentralmuseum des Risorgimento. Seit 1921 beherbergt das Viktor-Emanuel-Denkmal das Grab des unbekannten Soldaten, einen Ort, an dem die ewige Flamme leuchtet und der stets von zwei Soldaten bewacht wird. Das kolossale Denkmal, das 135 Meter breit und 70 Meter hoch ist, besteht aus zahlreichen majestätischen korinthischen Säulen und endlosen Treppen, die alle aus weißem Marmor gehauen sind. Die Spitze wird von einer in Bronze gegossenen Reiterstatue von Viktor Emanuel und zwei von der Göttin Viktoria gelenkten Streitwagen gekrönt.

The almost 30-metre high Trevi Fountain was built against the Palazzo Poli building. In the centre underneath the arch stands the statue of the nautical god Neptune, being pulled to the sea on his shell-shaped chariot pulled by two winged horses and tritons.There is no parking and no cars allowed at Trevi fountain so the chauffeur will drop you as close as possible and pick you up after the visit.
