We are now in the upscale district of Russian Hill. The name goes back to the gold rush, when newcomers discovered a Russian cemetery on the hill.

It has style this large white tower of 20 floors at the corner! It is the Bellaire tower, nicknamed the Jewel, the jewel, planted on top of Russian Hill.

You arrive in Ina Coolbrith Park named in honor of Ina Donna Coolbrith who was a poet, writer and librarian. A key figure in the San Francisco literary community.

We are in Washington square Park, in the heart of the North Beach neighborhood. Try to imagine yourself in the 19th century. There is virtually nothing built around you!

You see it from the beginning, here is the church of St. Peter and St. Paul. It is known as the “Italian Cathedral of the West” (although it is not a cathedral) and has served as a church and cultural center for the entire Italian-American community of San Francisco.

So you are at the top of Telegraph Hill, which, as its name suggests, is the hill on which San Francisco’s first semaphore was installed before it was replaced by an electric telegraph.

The stairs you take are the famous Filbert Steps. They are very popular for walking from the Embarcadero to the Coit Tower.

You have, on your right, Pier 33 from which the boats depart for Alcatraz, San Francisco’s flagship tour. As we won’t be able to go with you there, I suggest you to go and see together the 3D model that represents one of the most famous prisons in the world!

You walk along the so-called Embarcadero, yes, the Embarcadero in Spanish, quite simply. This long artery along the San Francisco waterfront runs from the Ferry Building, which you may have discovered while visiting San Francisco Downtown, to Fisherman’s Wharf.

You can see it with the big signs, the animation and the statue of this crab that welcomes you all claws outside, you arrive in a rather busy place. This is Pier 39, the most touristic pier in the city.

It was obviously necessary to come to the end of the pier in order to have a beautiful view of the horizon. Moreover, it is an excellent viewpoint on the island of Alcatraz.

But the stars of the pier are them! The San Francisco Sea Lions! They have also been affectionately called “Sea-Lebrities”. These elephant seals, also called California sea lions, are not seals, seals beware, they do not appreciate the comparison!

You see on your left, the wax museum, Madame Tussaud, of San Francisco. You will certainly know these famous museums, the first of which was created by the French sculptor Marie Tussaud, in London in 1835.

You are now passing through the shopping mall of Cannery Mall. This large red brick building is a good example of reuse and renovation of industrial spaces.

The park that you now pass through, facing the pretty beach, is part of San Francisco Historic Marine National Park. It features the Maritime Museum, which is the big building behind you, which was originally built as a public bath, as well as the Hyde Street Pier on your right, where you see the boats docked.
