Orongo is one of the most impressive archaeological sites in Rapa Nui, located on top of the Rano Kau volcano, with a spectacular view of the crater and the ocean. Touring this ancient ceremonial village, visitors can explore the stone houses, rebuilt in the traditional style, which show how the participants of the Birdman ritual (Tangata Manu) lived.
From the top, the islets Motu Nui, Motu Iti and Motu Kao Kao are seen, protagonists of the sacred competition in which village chiefs sought to obtain the first egg of the manutara. In addition, the rocks of the sector are decorated with petroglyphs that represent Birdman, Make Make and other figures of the Rapani imagination.
Orongo combines landscape, history and spirituality, offering a unique experience that connects visitors to one of Rapa Nui’s most important and fascinating traditions.

Rano Kau
Rano Kau is one of the most stunning natural landscapes in Rapa Nui. This huge extinct volcano forms a large crater more than a kilometer in diameter, whose interior is covered by a natural lagoon surrounded by unique vegetation on the island. From its viewpoint, visitors can see a spectacular contrast between the deep green of the crater and the infinite blue of the Pacific Ocean.
The steep walls of the Rano Kau clearly show the volcanic force that gave rise to the island, and its elevated location allows for panoramic views towards the coast and the village of Hanga Roa. In addition, this volcano was an important ancient agricultural and ceremonial center, and its proximity to the ceremonial village of Orongo makes it an indispensable place to understand the history and cultural landscape of Rapa Nui.
Visiting Rano Kau is an experience that combines nature, geology and culture, offering a perfect time to admire the grandeur and beauty of the island.

Ahu Vinapu
Vinapu is one of the most enigmatic archaeological sites in Rapa Nui, famous for its impressive stone architecture. Here you can see walls built with surprising precision, where large blocks of rock were carved and fitted with a technique so fine reminiscent of the ancient Inca walls of Cuzco. This perfection in masonry remains a mystery and one of the most fascinating aspects of the place.
The site has two main ceremonial platforms (Ahu): Ahu Tahira and Ahu Vinapu, each with unique features. Although the moai that once stood here are no longer standing, the historical and architectural value of the site is extraordinary. In addition, remains of a female moai were found in the area, which is very rare on the island.

Ahu Huri Urenga
Ahu Huri A Urenga is one of Rapa Nui’s most unique sites, known for being the island’s only Ahu to have coral-eyed moai and volcanic scum. This detail makes it a special place to appreciate how the ancient Rapanui completed their statues, giving them an almost “vivid” character when adding their eyes.
The site has six well-preserved moai, which face the interior of the island, unlike many others that face the sea. Ahu Huri A Urenga allows close observation of the carving prowess of the moai and the engineering of the platform, showing the sophistication of Rapa Nui culture.
Set in a peaceful setting, overlooking the countryside and coastline, this ahu offers an experience that combines history, culture and scenic beauty, ideal for those looking to learn more about the secrets of the Moai and the island’s ancestral tradition.
