Memnonkolosse
Colossi of Memnon are two massive stone statues standing on the west bank of the Nile near Luxor, guarding the site of the ancient mortuary temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III. Each statue, about 18 meters (60 feet) tall, depicts the seated pharaoh with his hands on his knees, symbolizing his enduring power and presence. Carved from quartzite sandstone, the Colossi of Memnon have survived over 3,400 years of history, including earthquakes that damaged parts of the statues.
