Adams Peak, also known as Sri Pada, is a majestic mountain standing at 2,243 meters (7,359 feet) in Sri Lanka's central highlands. It is a popular destination for both tourists and locals alike. The customary ascent typically begins in the middle of the night to reach the summit in time for a mesmerizing sunrise over Adams Peak. The mountain is part of the Peak Wilderness Sanctuary, a nature reserve spanning 224 square kilometers and characterized by tropical rainforests that surround Adams Peak. This sanctuary was designated as a wildlife refuge on October 25, 1940. Its unique geographical formations distinguish it from other natural reserves on the island.
