Verbotene Stadt – Das Palastmuseum
The Forbidden City, also known as the Palace Museum, sits on Beijing’s central axis. Completed in 1420, it served as the imperial residence for 24 emperors of the Ming and Qing dynasties. Covering 720,000 square metres, it is the world’s largest and best-preserved ancient wooden palace complex and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Its symmetrical layout reflects traditional Chinese philosophy and imperial hierarchy. Grand halls with golden glazed tiles, red walls and exquisite carved decorations embody the peak of ancient Chinese architectural craftsmanship. Every beam, roof ornament and courtyard carries profound cultural meanings.
Today, the palace turns into a museum housing millions of precious relics. Travellers can admire spectacular imperial architecture and experience the glorious royal culture spanning over 500 years. A tour here offers an unforgettable journey into China’s magnificent ancient civilisation.

Hutong-Tour
Hutongs are narrow alleyways that form the soul of old Beijing. They developed hundreds of years ago and weave through the city, connecting countless siheyuan, or traditional courtyard houses.
A classic siheyuan features houses built on four sides enclosing a central yard. This symmetrical design reflects ancient Chinese values of harmony, family unity and proper social order. In the past, multiple generations lived together under one compound.
Walking along quiet hutongs, visitors can witness authentic local life: elderly residents chatting, bicycles passing by and daily scenes full of warmth. Far from the grand royal palaces, hutongs and siheyuan showcase ordinary people’s lifestyle, presenting a completely different side of Beijing’s culture. Exploring these alleys lets travellers escape busy tourist spots and touch the genuine charm of traditional Beijing folk culture.
