Reiseplan
1
This stop explores the 1878 fire that transformed Cape May’s resort district. Guests will hear how flames near the Ocean House spread through wooden hotels, businesses, and homes, destroying roughly forty acres and forcing the town to rebuild into the Victorian destination visitors recognize today. The story sets the tone for the tour: Cape May did not survive by remaining untouched — it survived by rebuilding over what had been lost.

2
Built in 1849, Cherry House is older than much of the ornate Victorian architecture Cape May is known for today. Its haunted reputation grew through restoration-era reports of doors opening, sudden temperature changes, unexplained sounds, movement in empty rooms, and figures seen near the property. This stop gives guests a more intimate look at how preservation and paranormal tradition often overlap in Cape May’s historic homes.
15 Minuten
3
The Chalfonte Hotel opened in 1876 and remains one of Cape May’s most recognizable historic properties. On this darker tour, guests will hear about Room 19, where reports of late-night banging, unexplained disturbances, and activity without a clear source became part of the hotel’s paranormal reputation. It is a fitting stop for a tour focused on the unsettling stories old buildings carry after generations of guests have come and gone.

Congress Hall is one of Cape May’s most important landmarks and a powerful final stop for Dark Water Rising. The original hotel burned in the 1878 fire and was rebuilt in brick, then changed through eras of resort life, decline, reinvention, religious retreat, restoration, and renewed popularity. Guests will hear how its reported hauntings sit inside a larger story of a building — and a town — repeatedly remade while older versions remain just beneath the surface.
