1
Archaeological Site of Moray
We will begin the tour at 8:15 a.m. with pickup from your hotel and travel by bus to the Urubamba Valley. Along the way, we will enjoy views of the magnificent Chicón Snow-Capped Mountain.
Our first stop will be the picturesque village of Maras, where many houses still preserve their colonial style, and we will visit its beautiful church. Next, we will head to the Moray Archaeological Complex, which features a system of circular agricultural terraces believed to have been used by the Incas as an agricultural laboratory for crop experimentation.
Finally, we will visit the Maras Salt Mines, a series of terraces formed by hundreds of white salt pools that resemble snow from a distance. During the colonial period, this site became one of the most important salt-producing centers in the southern highlands. The salt mines have been used for thousands of years, even long before the Inca Empire.
We will return to the city of Cusco at approximately 2:30 p.m.

The Maras Salt Mines are one of the most fascinating attractions in Peru’s Sacred Valley, located near Cusco. This unique site consists of thousands of terraced salt pools that have been used for salt extraction since pre-Inca times. Fed by a natural saltwater spring, the pools create a spectacular landscape of shimmering white terraces cascading down the mountainside.
During the colonial era, Maras became one of the most important salt-producing centers in the southern Andes. Today, the salt mines continue to be operated by local families who use traditional harvesting methods passed down through generations.
Visitors can admire the breathtaking scenery, learn about the ancient salt extraction process, and gain insight into the cultural and economic importance of this remarkable site. The Maras Salt Mines offer a unique combination of history, tradition, and natural beauty, making them a must-see destination in the Sacred Valley.
