After arriving at the atelier, your instructor will introduce the basics of Japanese calligraphy and the traditional tools used in the lesson, including a brush, sumi ink, inkstone, and paper.
Participants will spend most of the 2.5-hour experience in the workshop area. Rather than a self-learning activity, this is an instructor-led lesson with step-by-step guidance throughout the workshop, so beginners can enjoy the experience with confidence.
You will begin by learning about the history and meditative spirit of shodō, then practice how to hold the brush and prepare sumi ink with an inkstone. After practicing basic lines and brushstrokes, you will choose a meaningful kanji character and r...
