The Accademia Gallery was established in 1784 to house prestigious Renaissance works. In 1873, it became the home for Michelangelo’s David to protect it from the elements. The location is symbolic, as the gallery sits on the square where a young Michelangelo first studied sculpting.
During your 1-hour guided tour, you will also discover Michelangelo’s unfinished "Slaves". These powerful figures appear to be struggling to escape the raw marble, offering a rare glimpse into the artist's philosophy of liberating the figure trapped within the stone.
