A bit of history… It was the maritime environment that inspired the monks of the Middle Ages to settle in this very location and build what would become one of the most extraordinary examples of religious architecture. Aubert, the Bishop of Avranches, is said to have founded a sanctuary on Mont Tombe in 708, following three successive apparitions of the Archangel Michael. Overlooking the vast bay, the Mont-Saint-Michel Abbey is the highlight of the visit.
