Passagem das Bestas, is a 4-hour walk on a 4 km trail in the interior of the island of Terceira, and takes place in a protected area belonging to the Terceira natural park. On this trail it is possible to observe relheiras (marks of ox cart wheels) that for centuries transported wood from the interior of the island) engraved in volcanic rock; be amazed by the beauty of Caldeira Guilherme Moniz (volcano crater); fall in love with the endemic and invasive flora; discover breathtaking landscapes; relax to the sound of migratory and resident birds in the Azores. The trail is of medium difficulty, on terrain with few flat parts, has a maximum elevation of 100 m, is a circular route and is approximately 4 km long.

The trail is situated in the centre of Terceira island and along the way we will observe the endemic flora of the Azores, large pastures and even some of the island´s fauna. Today's main attraction is “Rocha de Chambre ", a vertical wall located at 708m above sea level with a splendid view over Azinhal valley, Pico Alto. After this climb, time to admire the view from the Pico das Caldeirinhas and Pico Vermelho volcanic caldera. The last part of the trail passes along a dry stone wall in an area dominated by Azorean heather, an endemic floral specie. After lunch, time to get amazed with Algar do Carvão, a volcanic chimney that is, without doubt, the best known volcanic cave in the Azores.
