Cruise the sheltered waters of Oyster Harbour and the ancient Kalgan River whilst listening to a live and humerous commentary about the history, wildlife and why Albany is the home of ANZAC. With more the eighteen years of us cruising the wildlife has accepted us as part of the eco system. You will get up close and personal at the same time as learning about what you are seeing. In 1914 over 41,000 service men and women left from Albany bound for World War I. For many this would be the last time they saw home. Today at this very location stands the state-of-the-art award winning National Anzac Centre which uses multimedia, interactive technology and historical artifacts to create a deeply personal connection with the past, as well as pay tribute to those who served. Through traditional museum display and highly interactive multi-media content, visitors assume the identity of one of 32 actual service men or women, and follow their experience of the Great War: From recruitment, through training and embarkation, ship-board life on the convoys, the conflicts at Gallipoli, the Middle East, and the Western Front. Finally, for those lucky enough to survive, you will witness their return home and the difficulties they faced adjusting back into normal society.

Spend a day exploring the world’s only complete whaling station tourism attraction and gain fascinating insight into Albany’s colorful past. Follow informative trails to learn the stories of the men and women whose livelihood depended on Australia’s whaling industry. There are a variety of activities to experience and see such as short films within the converted whale oil tanks, a giant blue whale skeleton display, precious scrimshaw art, and a world-renowned marine animal art collection. You may even climb aboard the Cheynes IV, the world’s only preserved Whalechaser ship. Departs at 9am from Emu Point Boat pens for 4 hours of wild life history and fun. This is a sheltered water cruise with no open sea. We cross to Green Island which was Western Australia’s first vegetable garden and is now home to one of only four Pelican breeding grounds in Western Australia. Then cross Oyster Harbour to the Kalgan River. Seen regularly are Pelicans Eagles Hawks and a wide range of other bird life. You are served Tea Coffee and a hot savoury Damper while listening to a live and humorous commentary. Returning across the harbour to the boat pens at 1pm. Oh yes did I mention it’s FUN?

From here, amidst the pristine bushland, it is possible to see the vast expanse of the Southern Ocean and the rugged coastlines that early explorers first encountered as they rounded the peninsula for the sheltered waters of Princess Royal Harbour. Get closer to the edge! At The Gap, feel the power of the wind and water from the masterfully crafted, protected walkway. See the pounding waves as they thrash the granite walls and surge into the spaces below. Exhilarating! Travel on, and complete your journey and exploration of the impressive coastline with some delectable afternoon tea.

Leave Albany behind to travel to Porongurup National Park. An experienced guide will accompany you on a hike, about an hour on a nature trail to get to Castle Rock.
